Betty J. Bennett, age 76, of Tilton, passed away at 8 pm on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Provena USMC in Danville. She was born December 10, 1931 in Tilton the daughter of Elza M. and Ruby M. (McIntosh) Barrett. Betty married Fred Bennett on December 13, 1952 in Danville. He survives. She is also survived by one son: Tom L. (Cindy) Bennett of Kennesaw, GA; two grandsons: Tommy and Kyle Bennett of Kennesaw, GA; three sisters: Wanda Berry of Danville, Lois Amos of Danville, Peggy Baldwin of Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Jack Barrett, three sisters: Dorothy Mikel, Rosemary Newberry, and Juanita Minyard. Betty worked at Malones Restaurant on East Main Street in Danville when she was younger. She also worked at the old YMCA cafeteria, Sears and Walgreens Accounting. Betty also stayed home to raises her family. She was involved with many organizations dealing with her children and her church. Betty was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, President of school PTA, involved in Relay for life, and was a member and taught Sunday School at Central Park Church of Christ. Betty and her husband Fred were members of Village Square Dance Club, where Betty taught and called for rounds dancing. She belonged to Dan-Oak Ladies Bowling League, where she bowled on a team with four of her sisters and several of her nieces. Betty loved to crochet, knit, play cards, and sewing. She made dresses for her square dancing events along with many other activities. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by everybody who knew her.
