Bettie Haussy

Bettie Haussy, 93, of Georgetown, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:15 pm on 10/18/2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, IN.

Bettie was born at her home in Georgetown, on September 18th, 1933. She was the oldest of the five children born to Francis (Franny) and Juanita (Maskel) Nimrick. She graduated from Georgetown High School with the Class of 1951. She married Leon Haussy on October 13th of the same year, and they went on to have two children, Crystal and Steven. Bettie began her adult career as local switchboard operator. In 1962, she graduated from Danville Beauty School and became the owner/operator of Bettie’s Beauty Salon in Georgetown. She ran the salon for over 40 years, until an auto accident in 1998 forced her to retire. Through the years, she gained many loyal clients, losing most of them only to death. For many of these ladies, she was the last one to style their hair. Bettie continued to have a passion for doing hair throughout her life, and she enjoyed nothing more than talking her own beautician through doing her hair while she was working. Bettie was adored and loved beyond measure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Bettie was also a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown, sitting on the church Board of Trustees for many years. She was also a member of the planning committee for the monthly community lunch given out at the church that continues to this day. Many (now adult) children in the community would remember seeing her as a reading grandparent at Pinecrest School, the ticket taker or expo hall attendant at the annual Georgetown fair, or even at the library where she was a part of many community outreach programs. She and Leon spent many Saturday nights above the American Legion and weekends traveling around the state or in local parades doing another activity they really loved, Square Dancing. Bettie also made many friends during her time working at the local Curves gym.

Even with all of her commitments to the community, nothing came before her family, especially her kids and grandkids. It didn’t matter where the game, the dance recital, the birthday party, or the trips to Wisconsin took her, she was always there. She loved her kids, but her grandkids were her pride and joy. The holidays were an especially important time to her but even more so if all of her kids and grandkids were there.

Bettie left many loved ones to carry on her memory, including her Daughter Crystal (Tim) Snack of Bedford, Indiana; Grandchildren Brandon (Maggi) Snack of Bedford, Kaci (Craig) Grimes of Mitchell, Indiana, Jessica (Denise) Haussy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jennifer (Darrell) Price of Milwaukee ; Great-Grandchildren Mady (Luke) Stephenson, Kaylin Snack, Colton Butler, Triniti Butler, Jase Butler, Brody Grimes, Ellah Grimes, Bailey Haussy, Riley Haussy, Kobe Price, and Melchi Price; Siblings Sherry Serd and Lee Nimrick of Georgetown, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon Haussy, son Steve Haussy, brother John Nimrick, Sister Nyrita Sellers, brother-in-law Leo Serd, sister-in-law Nancy Nimrick, aunt Dorothy Eggett, and 2 very special friends, Betty Gerard and GD Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Methodist Church of Christ monthly luncheon. Bettie's family has entrusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home with arrangements.

A visitation will be held at First Methodist Church of Georgetown 400 North Main Street Georgetown, Illinois, on Saturday October 24, 2026, from 11-1pm.
