Bertha Mae Obenland

Bertha Obenland, 84, of Covington, IN, formerly of Potomac, IL passed away at 8:38 PM at the Waters of Covington on July 26, 2025.

Bertha was born on October 3, 1940 the daughter of John and Mary Jane (Calvert) Garrison in Adolphus, KY. She married Herman Everett Obenland on July 21st 1968 in Gifford, IL and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2003.

Survivors include her children, Buffy McCall of Potomac, IL and Mandy Herron of Covington, IN, six grandchildren, Ashley McCall, Laura Babb, April McCall, Onnasti McCall, Bailey Pierce, and Charley Shoaf. Bertha is also survived by her eleven great grandchildren, Acelynn, Paislee, Blake, Brayden, Falonn, Teagan, Charlotte, Oliver, Avery, Delaney and Rory, and four brothers Homer (Jeanette) Garrison, Jimmy Garrison, John (Kristy) Garrison, and Ronnie (Donna) Garrison.

Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman Everett Obenland and five siblings, Charles Garrison, Tom Garrison, Donald Garrison, Betty Wells, and Mary Bolin.

Bertha attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Potomac, IL. Over the years she worked a variety of places, General Electric in Danville, Schumacher Electric in Hoopeston, Casey’s in Potomac, was a Meter Maid in Danville, and owned and operated a restaurant in Henning, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events. She also enjoyed the summertime and warm weather, where she could tend to her garden. Most days you would find her outside working in her yard. She also liked to visit local garage sales.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Oakwood, Illinois 105 East S. Main St. Oakwood, Illinois 61858. Pastor Randy Holden will officiate. Burial will be in Potomac Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 on Friday, August 1, 2025 at the funeral home in Oakwood.

Memorials may be made in Bertha’s memory to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
