Bertha E. Conant, 101, of Georgetown passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday March 30, 2011 at the Vermilion County Nursing Home. She was born on September 4, 1909, in Palermo, IL, the daughter of Charles Isaac and Bessie (Lewis) Weaver. She married Virgil Gannon on April 7, 1929. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1974. She later married George Conant on November 15, 1975. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1982. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Janet (Larry) Moss, Mike (Patty) Kelley, Barney (Peg) Kelley, Patty Puryear, Bud, Chuck, and Terry Fonner, Roger Weaver, and Nancy Fictum; many great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and great great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Bertha was a member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. She worked at the Sidell Journal back in the 1920s. She loved spending her summers with her husband, at their cabin in Wisconsin, hosting many friends and family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and fishing at their cabin. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 2, 2011 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Steve Rutter will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
