Bert D. Coonce

Newport, Ind. -- Bert D. Coonce, 78, of Newport, Indiana, passed away at 8:22 p.m. EST Friday, December 28, 2007 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born March 6, 1929 in Newport, Indiana the son of the late Clifford and Cecil Kraft Coonce. He married Nellie A. Norman on September 19, 1998 in Newport, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his step children: Tom Norman, Jr. of Newport, Indiana; Brenda Norman of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Janet(Duane)Monk of Zionsville, Indiana; 8 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; one sister, Parilee Annerino of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Bob Coonce of Munice, Indiana. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bonner and Donald Coonce. Bert was a retired diesel mechanic. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a graduate of Hillsdale High School and a member of the Newport American Legion Post #184. Bert enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Thursday, January 3, 2008 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Shawn Farley; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Newport American Legion Post #184; Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. EST Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the funeral home.
