Bernice LaVonne Wimsett, 84, of Georgetown, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Bernice was born on July 9, 1925 in Danville, the daughter of Andy and Mary (Shelato) Swisher. Bernice married Vic Wimsett Jr. in 1952 in Danville. He survives. She is survived by three sons- Butch (Sue) Clauson of Danville, Vic Wimsett III of Westville, Brad Wimsett of Poplarville, Mississippi; one daughter- Tonya (Jeff) Galyen of Georgetown; one son-in-law- Carl (Margaret) Hafner of Danville; 13 grandchildren- Misty Smith, Ron (Jody) Clauson, Tony Hafner, Tori Shivley, Carmella Rollins, Kelli (Rob) Taylor, Sommer Dishman, Dawn Wimsett, Lisa Grubb, Teri Galyen, Tabetha (Jason) Ellis, Jeffery Scott Galyen and Rhiannon Shelato; three step-grandchildren- Tim Shelato, Cathy (Carl) Waterstradt and Becky (Billy) Steele; 24 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; 11 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; seven step great-great grandchildren; one sister- June (Todge) Kopacz of Danville; one sister-in-law- Marilyn Swisher of Danville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Teri Hafner, three sons- Randy Wimsett, Billy Wimsett and Brian Wimsett, two grandchildren- Butch Clauson Jr. and Brandon Nixon, two great-grandchildren- Victoria Taylor and Dale Brandonberg, one step great-grandson- Harley Brown, sister- Rosie Welsch, brother- Bob Swisher and brother-in-law- John Welsch. Bernice previously worked at GE in Danville and most recently worked as an in home health caregiver. She enjoyed playing bingo, rummage sales, euchre, slot machines, crocheting, playing pool, dancing and listening to music, especially Patsy Cline. Bernices grandchildren were the most important thing in her life. She loved spending time with them. A Celebration of the Life of Bernice LaVonne Wimsett will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Billy Cloud officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
