Steger, IL- Benjamin Holman, 96, of Steger, IL, formerly of Tilton and Oakwood, died at 12:55 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the St. James Hospice House in Chicago Heights, IL. He was born on May 27, 1915 in Tilton, IL to Calvin L. and Maggie McCormick Holman. He married Thelma Bolser in 1935 in Urbana, IL. She preceded him in death in 1992. Surviving are one daughter Frances K. (Tony Gaskill) Groben of Steger, IL; five grandchildren, Kim (Richard) Mattox, Janice (Dennis) Ziems, Kevin (Teresa) Groben, Jennifer Juechter, and Jeff Groben; and five great-grandchildren, Kolbie Groben, Mariah Mattox, Luke Ziems, Diana Groben, and Emilia Groben. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Benjamin lived in Tilton until 1960 and then moved to Oakwood where he lived for 41 years. He worked on the New York Central Railroad for 33 years until his retirement. He also enjoyed travelling and was a member of the United Church of Tilton. A service to celebrate the life of Benjamin Holman will take place at the United Church of Tilton at 1 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Pastor Kevin Groben will officiate. Burial will follow at Songer Cemetery in Tilton. Visitation will be held from 11 AM - 1 PM at the church prior to the service on Tuesday.
