In Loving Memory Bart Jay Hughes November 14, 1969 - March 19, 2016 Bart Hughes passed away in his Danville, IL home on the afternoon of Saturday, March 19 due to complications from lung cancer. He was born in Danville on November 14, 1969, and grew up in towns throughout central Illinois and Indiana. During his school years he played several sports, but his true passion lay in basketball. He graduated from Schlarman High School in 1988. On June 22, 1996 he married Andrea Sollars Hughes and together they had two children, Gannon and Gabrielle. Bart was dedicated to his family, his community, and his friends. Outgoing, kind, and generous, he was always the first person to crack a joke and also the first person to extend a hand to those in need. As coach of the Danville Broncos Basketball team, he passed his love of basketball on to a new generation of young men, including his son. He cherished his time with "his boys". He was an active supporter of his daughter's athletics as well, and did everything he could to attend all of his children's games and tournaments. He was also an armchair coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Indiana University Hoosiers, the Indiana Pacers, and the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his wife Andrea, his children Gannon and Gabrielle, his mother Patricia Frye, his father Roger Hughes and his stepmother Linda Hughes, paternal grandmother Pauline Hughes, his brother and sister-in-law Brett and Tanya Hughes, his niece Lauren Hughes as well as the many young people he coached over the years. The Hughes family would like to thank all of those who extended their kindness, prayers, and support throughout Bart's fight with cancer and since his passing. It heartens his family to know that Bart was so beloved by the community he held dear. A celebration of Bart's life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 10:00am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Frs. Greg Nelson and Deus Byomuhangi officiating.
