Barry Russell Grimm, Sr.

Oakwood Barry Russell Grimm, Sr., 61, of Oakwood passed away at 2:03 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born June 8, 1962 in Danville to James Russell and Ruth Ellen (Myers) Grimm. He married LuAnn Mae Stitt on July 7, 2001 in Fithian. She survives.

Also surviving are six children, Barry Russell (Heather) Grimm, Jr. of Fithian, Haley Swearingen of Villa Grove, Shauna (Brian) Greene of Catlin, MaKenzie Pankey of Danville, James Jordan (Kelsey) Grimm of Oakwood, and Kelsey Grimm of Fithian; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; two sisters, Lora I. (John W., Jr.) Harrison and Nancy A. (Roy) Durbin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy (Jamie) Stitt, Courtney (Mike) Montel, Shelbey (Kevin) Taylor, Melissa (Jeremy) Gaskill, and Buddy (Julie) Stitt; mother and father-in-law, Dennis and Cindy Winn, mother-in-law, Kathy (Mark) Stitt; numerous nieces and nephews, including Aaron Harrison with whom he shared a special bond; and his much loved eight cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, Kenneth Stitt.

Barry graduated from Oakwood Township High School before going to work on his family farm. He went on to take positions at WACO and Fox Channel 27 before spending over 20 years as a Line Tech at Plastipak. Barry was a 32nd Degree Mason as a member of the Collison Masonic Lodge and enjoyed trains, computers and gaming, and technology of any sort. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and liked riding motorcycles in his youth. Barry would plan for months for the arrival of the Georgetown Fair where he most looked forward to grabbing a footlong corndog and riding the Ferris Wheel. He was also an animal lover, and in addition to his eight beloved cats, Barry would provide feasts for the birds and other local wildlife.

Barry was a jack-of-all trades and could fix anything you put in front of him. Most of all, he will be remembered as a person who would do anything for anyone. Barry never shied away from a request when someone was in need and often used his handyman skills to provide that help. He delighted in providing for and spoiling his loved ones, especially his wife. Barry was very loved and will be missed by many.
