Barbara Ann Tarter

Danville - Barbara Ann Ogden Tarter gained her wings February 3rd, 2026, at Carle Hospital, in Champaign, Illinois, surrounded by those she loved. Her legacy will not be measured in titles or accolades but rather by the steady and faithful love she poured into her family, friends and community. That love will remain steadfast in the hearts of all who knew her.

Ann came into this world on September 19th, 1946, in Coles Co., Charleston, Illinois. The daughter of Kenneth “Pete” Ogden and Barbara (Story) Ogden She was their first-born child. Her sisters Debbie Epperson of Tennessee and Nicole Parks (Bill) of Woodstock, GA survive her.

Ann attended Charleston High school as well as San Marcos Senior High in Santa Barbara, California graduating with the class of 1964. She was the mother of three children, Teresa (Tuggle) Campbell of Champaign, IL. Darren (Michelle) Tuggle of Chicago and Nikki Baker (Shawn) of Potomac, IL. Grandmother to six grandchildren, Makenzie Baker (Conner) of Fairmount, IL, Nathan (Shelby) Baker of Oakwood, IL, Dylanee Baker of Potomac, IL, Natalie “Lauren” (Bart) Brennan of Baltimore MD and Wyatt (Ella) Earle of Knoxville, TN and Quinton Tuggle of Chicago, IL. She is a great grandmother to four, Aspen, Saylem, Devyn, Audrey, and Winnie (arriving in March).

Ann lived a full and active life which was defined by quiet devotion and service. She worked for the University of Illinois for 20 plus years, as well as for the US Postal service ultimately retiring at the age of 75. Ann was well known for her yearly role as “Mrs. Claus” and brought much joy to children and adults alike throughout the years. In one of her unofficial jobs, Ann used to like to joke that she was a Jiffy Cornbread spokeswoman. Many a person will attest to receiving one of the Jiffy cookbooks she loved to hand out each year. She was a great lover of animals and fostered countless dogs throughout her life making her schedules around their care. Announcing the 4-H horse show at the Vermilion County Fair was something she always looked forward to as well.

An avid reader and gifter of books, she would often say that she felt it was sad to go into a home which had no books on its shelves. She was a member of the Muncie Baptist Church in Fithian, Illinois.

Ann will forever be missed by all who knew her. Her passing leaves behind a void not only in the hearts of those who loved her but in the community as a whole.
