Barbara Muirhead

Barbara Muirhead, 93, of Danville, IL passed away at 5:30 AM on June 22, 2026 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville, IL.

Barbara was born on November 30, 1932 in Paris, IL the daughter of Kenneth and Christine (Potts) Lucas. She married Robert James Muirhead on November 22, 1959 in Sidell, IL and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2023.

Survivors include her sons, Jonathan (Barbara) Muirhead of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew (Melissa) Muirhead of Danville, IL, and his three grandsons, Trevor, Tyler and Grant Muirhead.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert Muirhead, and one brother, Robert Lucas.

Barbara graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in history. She was a member of St James United Methodist Church and the Danville Country Club. She was very civic minded and involved in her community serving on a variety of Boards and organizations.

In her younger years, Barbara was an Airline Stewardess for Eastern Airlines and later taught grade school for Danville District 118. She served on the board for the Center for Children Services over 25 years and held the position of President for one year. Barabara also served on the United Way Women’s Board, and the Senior Board for the Women’s Auxiliary of Lakeview Hospital.

Barbara enjoyed spending her free time cooking, gardening and traveling.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St James United Methodist Church, 504 N Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61832. Reverend Dr Don Jackson will officiate. Entombment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834.

Memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory to St James United Methodist Church in Danville, IL or the Danville Symphony Orchestra.
