Barbara Lee Buford

Our Lord, in his infinite wisdom, has called our Barbara Lee Overstreet Buford home to be with Him. Barbara was born here in Danville, Illinois to Leo and Valerie (Boyd) Overstreet on April 28,1934. She was married Thomas M. Buford in 1956, here in Danville. Barbara was a lifelong member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Allen and usher board. "Barb", as she was called by coworkers, worked as a deputy clerk at the Vermilion County Courthouse for over 32 years. Barbara never met a stranger and will be remembered for her radiant smile, quick wit, and warm laughter. She loved being able to help people while working at the courthouse. Loving and helping others was her legacy. Barbara had a passion for reading, and loved books. She also enjoyed gospel and R&B music. She loved jewelry and she liked to dress nicely while on this earth, but mostly, she loved the Lord. He was her help... She leaves to cherish her sweet memory; Her sister, LaWanda M. (Overstreet) Baker, her children; Lisa Buford Obiereze of Durham NC, Gail R. Buford of Danville, IL, Michelle (Jerry) Buford Patton of Bloomington, IL and Thomas E. Buford of Indianapolis, IN. "Barbie" as they called her, has eight grandchildren; Ty Buford, Emenari Obiereze, Lacey Buford-Lillard, Bianca Buford Patton, Jerry Patton III, Angel Patton, Ariel Buford, and Jaevon Buford. Barbie has one great grandchild; Jameer Jamison, a sister-in-law, Valera Buford, two nieces; Val (Pierre) Luttrell and Latishia Baker, and nephew; Jason D. Baker. Barbara was preceded in death by husband,Thomas M. Buford, parents Leo and Valerie Overstreet, and beloved nephew; Frederick L. Baker. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Danville. Visitation will be held prior from 12-1 PM. Pastor Steve Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
