Barbara Jean Hughes, 54, of Bismarck, passed away on January 9, 2007 in Oakland, California. Barbara was born on June 17, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Gooch) Hughes Sr. She married Brian Shelato Sr. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1998. She is survived by her one son- Brian Shelato Jr. of Bismarck; two daughters- Lisa (Vinny) Belluci of Sarasota, Florida and Melissa (Michael) Hillard of Bismarck; two brothers- Robert Hughes Jr. of Tilton and Paul Hughes of Camargo, Illinois; three sisters- Pat (Jim) Barnett of Indianola, Kathy Cook and Jenny Carter both of Villa Grove; four grandchildren- Amber Kostura of Ft. Myers, Florida, Erik Belluci of Sarasota, Florida, Jonica Hillard and Katarina Johnson both of Bismarck; one special brother-in-law- Aden Serepin Sr. of Kingman, Indiana; special friends- Cindy (Jay) Johnson of Danville, Barry Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Keval Patel of Danville, and Mike Harroun of Onarga, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Barbara graduated from Jamaica High School. She attended Danville Area Community College and Parkland College, where she obtained her degree in nursing. Barbara dearly loved her friends and her family. She enjoyed going shopping and buying jewelry. She loved to spend her time decorating her house and gardening. Barbara truly loved her job and her career. She was a member of Moose Lodge #1001. There was always a special place in Barbaras heart for all of Shelatos friends. A Tribute of the Life of Barbara Jean Hughes will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Sunsets Community and Life Tribute Center 3550 N. Vermilion St. Danville, with Pastor Miles Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. " 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Tribute Center. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at St. Peter and Pauls Cemetery in Westville. Memorials may be made to the Crossroads Christian Church in Danville.
