Barbara J. Clapp

Barbara J. (Dines) Clapp of Danville died Monday, February 6, 2012 following a brief illness at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was 77. Born Nov. 28, 1934 in Bismarck, Ill., she was the daughter of Ralph A. and Ercel M. (Watson) Dines. She married Charles H. "Henry" Clapp Jr. on Dec. 11, 1954 at Farmer's Chapel United Methodist Church in Danville. He survives. Except for spending two years in Texas while Henry served in the U.S. Army, she lived her entire life in the Danville area. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who centered her life on her four children and later 10 grandchildren. She taught them the importance of family and hard work; and always stressed the value of learning. She was a gifted cook and seamstress, and she loved hosting birthdays, holidays - especially Christmas -- and special events for her family. She made certain every family member had their favorite home-made cake on their birthday. She also enjoyed flower gardening. A graduate of Bismarck High School, she worked the past 12 years in accounting for the family business, Full-Fill Industries of Henning, Ill. She worked in finance for a previous family business, Creative Products of Rossville, Ill. Besides her husband, other survivors include her children: Catherine S. (Jeffrey) Owen of Franklin, IN; and David L. (Lisa) Clapp, Steven L. (Cheryl) Clapp; and Jonathon (Deanne) Clapp all of Danville. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Adam Owen (Kim) of Franklin, Ind.; Marissa Clapp of Houston, Texas; Brian Clapp of DeKalb, Ill.; and Britney Clapp, Brandon Clapp, Kelsie Clapp, Kevin Clapp, Emma Clapp, Natalie Clapp and Mason Clapp, all of Danville. Other survivors include two brothers, Max (Sue) Dines and Ronald Dines of Danville; and five sisters, Ruth Patton, Beverly Mills, and Carolyn Pichon, all of Bismarck, Ill.; Linda (Jack) Smith of Danville; and Sandra (Larry) Steinbaugh of Alvin, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, William Dines, Ralph Dines, Gerald Dines, Donald Dines and Larry Dines; and two nieces and two nephews. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, with the Rev. Justin Snider officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in honor of Barbara may be made to the organization of the donor's choice. Condolences can be made at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
