Barbara L. Doney, 85, of Danville passed away on August 16, 2008. Barbara was born in Bogra, India on October 22, 1933 daughter of Daniel & Louise Loucks Eckert. She is survived by five children: H. Michael (Judi) Freeman, Patricia (Steve) Mielke, Deborah (Dave) Kanger, Glenda (Blake) Williams, and Richard Doney; 3 brothers: Albert Eckhart, John Eckert, & Peter Eckert; 2 sisters: JoAnne Hutton & Vera Wilson; 7 grandchildren: Bill, Stephenie, Doug, Jerry, Scott, David, & Jonathan; 7 great-grandchildren: Josh, Denver, Brandon, Hali, Stephen, Colby, & Alexis; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter. Barbara graduated from Catlin High School and worked at the Y.W.C.A. as a swimming instructor for 55 years and retired from Illinois Bell after 10 years. She was a Girl Scout Leader and 4-H Leader for 10 years, and was very active in the UMW at St. James Methodist Church and knitted lap robes for a nursing home in Tennessee after retiring. Per her wishes she will be cremated and a Celebration of her Life and Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Sunsets Community & Life Tribute Center 3550 N. Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61832 (Formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel) with Rev. Ken Cox officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. A private committal service will be held at McKendree Cemetery on Thursday. Memorials may be made in her name to St. James Methodist Church in Danville and/or the Vermilion County 4-H Program.
