WESTVILLE- Barbara J. Becky Smith, 89 of Westville, passed away at 6:26pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. Becky was born on December 9, 1917, in Westville, the daughter of Petrus and Anela (Podlupski) Povilaitis. Both deceased. On September 25, 1935, Becky married Andrew Steamboat Smith at the former St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Westville. He preceded her in death in 1984. Becky will be missed by: her two daughters, Judith (Ed) Barton Sr. of Westville and Debbie (Rick) Rivers of Danville; her three grandchildren, Ed (Candy) Barton Jr. of Westville, Tim (Rhonda) Barton of Perrysville, IN, and Alan Rivers of Tilton; her four great-grandchildren, Linda (John) Atwood of Westville, Lucas Barton of Westville, Amber (Aaron) Kennedy of North Carolina, and T.J. Barton of Danville; and her step-grandchild, Chelsea Dixon of Perrysville, IN. Her four brothers and her sister precede Becky in death. She was a Westville High School Graduate and was employed at the former McMillan School in Hegeler as a school cook, retiring in 1977. She was past president of Central School PTA and Home Extension, as well as an active member for years. Becky was also a member of the Westville Legion Auxiliary for 58 years. She enjoyed cooking and was awarded the Commercial News prize award for her homemade breads. She was also well known for her Kugeli, Bacon Bun, and Holiday French Waffles. Becky loved to go mushroom hunting, enjoyed gardening, decorating for the holidays, and always supplied the yearly Bun Ya Cauda Party with her home grown garlic. She rooted for the Chicago Bears and the Westville Tigers football teams. She was an avid bowler, and loved finding a good bargain. Becky was full of life, with a good sense of humor. She truly loved children, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always known too have cookies for the neighborhood kids. She enjoyed being entertained by the three children; Zo, Kisimi, and Tammy that would visit her at the nursing home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Broaders (her soul sister), Dr. Ghods, and all the staff at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, and a special thank you to her friends and family for their help and support. A celebration of Beckys life is scheduled for 10:00am on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at St. Marys Church in Westville. Father Dick Brunskill has been asked to perform the mass. Final resting place will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Friday, November 9, 2007 with a Rosary beginning at 3:30pm at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel of Westville
