Barbara "Jodi" Barney, 73, a devoted family woman and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully at her home in Westville, Illinois, on December 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, who will deeply miss her. Born on July 21, 1951, in Danville, Illinois, to Richard and Dorothy (Green) Camp, Jodi lived a life filled with love, teaching, and service, inspiring those around her with her selfless spirit. She was married to Edwin Barney Sr. for 54 years and leaves behind a legacy of two sons, Eddie and David Barney; her grandchildren, Easton, Kinley, Luke, Drew, and Kyle; and her brothers, Jim and Bill Larson, all of whom are grateful for the memories they shared with her. Jodi was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Camp.
Jodi obtained her master's degree from Eastern Illinois University and went on to teach at Georgetown Junior High School for over 30 years, where she made a lasting impact on her students. After retiring from teaching, Jodi became a successful real estate agent for Barney Realty, helping numerous families find their dream homes. She was the first coach of the soccer team at Westville High School and her passion for sports and supporting her family was evident in her unwavering attendance at her children's and grandchildren's games. In her later years, she found joy in watching her sons coach high school sports. Jodi's kindness and generosity inspired those around her, and her annual tradition of ringing the Salvation Army bell was a testament to her giving spirit.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11-1 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois, where everyone will gather to share stories of Jodi's love and legacy. A service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jay Sorrell officiating, and Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Please join Jodi's family in sharing memories, pictures, and video on her tribute wall at http://www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
