Barbara Allen Bushue, 91, passed away on November 11, 2024 at Fountain Springs in Covington, Indiana. Barbara was born in rural Covington on February 19, 1933 to the late Paul and Mildred (Allen) Summers. She grew up in rural Covington and attended Perrysville High School. Barbara married Arlin Bushue on January 30, 1951 and together they spent 43 years together before his eventual passing in 1994.
Barbara was a gifted musician who could play nearly any instrument that had a keyboard. It was not uncommon to hear her playing the piano or organ in church on Sunday mornings. Barbara was devoted to her faith and enjoyed fellowship at several different churches in the area throughout the years. Most recently, Barbara cherished being a part of the community at the New Century Church in Veedersburg. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed the company of a good book and playing euchre. More than anything else, she was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a caretaker by nature; not only raising 8 children, but she also worked at the Illiana VA Medical Center in Danville for some time in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s assisting the veterans. After her husband Arlin’s passing, Barbara spent many days in the Covington schools as a substitute teacher where she thoroughly enjoyed teaching the children and being in their company.
Barbara is survived by her children William “Bill” (Donna) Bushue, Melvin Robert “Bob” Bushue, Arlin Wayne Bushue, John (Theresa) Bushue, James “Jim” (Cindy) Bushue, Mark (Dawn) Bushue, Rose Bushue, and Paul (Carman) Bushue; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother Joe (Jane) Summers and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by her daughter-in-law Linda Bushue, step-grandson Rob Foley, and great-granddaughter Telina Bushue. She has also been reunited with her brothers Keith & Robert Summers and sister Brenda Hoaks.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm EST on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home’s Covington Chapel, located at 420 3rd Street in Covington.
