OAKWOOD - B. E. “Ed” Fletcher, 95, of Oakwood passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Ed was born April 14, 1919 in Armstrong, the son of Frank and Allie (Hobbs) Fletcher. On September 29, 1940, he married Margaret Ann White in Vermilion County. After nearly 50 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on January 18, 1990. He then married Ruth Vinson on June 21, 1991. She survives. Ed was a graduate of Armstrong High School. Ed served his country with honor during World War II in the United States Army. He was a railroad engineer for Illinois Central, retiring after 35 years. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and also a member of Newtown United Methodist Church. Ed loved anything outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing or camping. He was a longtime sufferer of the Chicago Cubs, never missing a game, no matter what. Ed also loved anytime spent with family and his grandkids. Ed is also survived by three children, Jeanne (Dale) Munds of Bondville, Phil (Alice) Fletcher of Danville and Bonita (Bob) Vinson of Oakwood; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; five stepchildren, Bob (Bonita) Vinson of Oakwood, Jody (Steve) West of Oakwood, Cindy (Donny) Bennett of Oakwood, Denny (Brenda) Vinson of Danville and K.P. Vinson of Oakwood; thirteen step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a sister, Rita (Harry) Plotner of Oakwood; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret; step son, Mark Vinson; three siblings, Margaret Divan, Mildred Anderson and Glenn Fletcher; and two infant brothers. A service to celebrate Eds life will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 20th at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel. Burial with military honors provided by Danville American Legion Post 210 will be at Newtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for Danville VFW Post 728 and Newtown Methodist Church.
