Augusta "Rita" (Spanglo) Dunn

Augusta Rita Dunn, 91, of Rantoul passed away on Thursday, April 6th, 2023, at Farmer City Nursing Home with family by her side.

Rita was born on July 20, 1931, at Urbana, to Carl and Zelma Fitzgerrel Spanglo.  She married Gerald Dunn in 1949, and together they had seven wonderful children: LuAnn, Teresa, Charles, Julia, Michael, Joseph, and Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; her parents, and two brothers: Tom Spanglo and Tony Spanglo.

Survivors include her seven children, LuAnn Williams of Quakertown, PA; Teri (Karl) Crapse of Rantoul; Chuck (Cindy) Dunn of Mims, FL; Julie (Rex) Pence of Bloomington; Mike (Shelly) Dunn of Rantoul; Joe Dunn (Lupe Gomez) of Arcola; and Frank Dunn of Rantoul.  Also surviving are her sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and her brother, Bobby Spanglo of Maine.

Rita grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1949, where she was a majorette and was active in many clubs.  Rita was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Rantoul. She was an avid Illini Basketball and Football fan and loved Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.  Rita was a wonderful cook and baker, and she took pride in her delicious cakes, pies, and cookies.  She was an avid dog lover and was blessed with having many dogs over the years.  She also enjoyed spending time outdoors looking at birds, butterflies, and flowers. Spending time with her family and her beloved basset hound, Rosie, were her favorite things to do.

Mom was loved by so many and will truly be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 311 East Grove Ave., in Rantoul.  Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rantoul.  There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul.
