Savoy - August J. Hoeflinger 87, formerly of Danville, recently of Savoy, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2015 at 6:22 a.m. surrounded by his loving family. Augie was born the son of Julius and Anita Hoeflinger on October 28, 1927 in Belleville, Illinois. Augie married his sweetheart Rose on February 18, 1950 in Belleville, Illinois. The two enjoyed over 65 years of married life together. Augie is survived by his wife Rose Hoeflinger formerly of Danville, currently of Savoy; his son Jay (Donna) Hoeflinger of Urbana; his two grandsons Chris (Jennifer McBroom) Hoeflinger and Dan (Jennifer) Hoeflinger; his sister Mary Ann Heck; and his loving nieces and nephew. Augie is preceded in death by his parents Julius and Anita Hoeflinger. Augie graduated from U of I in 1949 with his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Illinois Power Company for over 40 years and started enjoying his retirement in 1989. Augie was a founder and long-time leader of the Illinois Power Retirees group in Danville. Augie had a particular dedication to his faith and First Presbyterian Church, he sang for 30 years in the churchs choir. Growing banana trees held a special attraction for him - often planting more than 100 trees in the spring, then digging them up and storing them for the winter. He was also known for being gifted in the area of woodworking, he would make all sorts of toys, birdhouses and toddler activity sets for his grandchildren and other family members. Augie was a beloved family man and will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation for Augie will be at 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a life celebration home in Danville. Funeral services will be private. The family ask that no floral arrangements be sent due to allergies, instead they ask that you please donate to the Danville First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund in his memory.
