Arturo Ramirez, 81, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Arturo was born in Dexter, New Mexico in 1939 the son of Rosendo and Dora Ramirez. He moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in his early 20s where he got married and had two daughters. Following his desire to advance himself, he attended the University of Iowa as an undergrad and obtained a Master's degree from Western Michigan University. He then moved to Chicago and worked as a librarian until he retired 2000. He lived most of his retirement in Danville before relocating back to Chicago to be closer to family. He will be wholly missed.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina Ramirez and Dawn (Matthew) Amsden; siblings, Richard (Eva) Ramirez, Ruth (Lupe) Ramirez, and Manuel Ramirez; as well as grandpets, Pixie Ramirez and Thea and Oliver Amsden.

Arturo is preceded in death by long-term partner, John Schmidt; and his siblings, Andres Ramirez, Annie Ramirez, and Robert Ramirez.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Robbie Ketcherside. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. Per Arturos wishes cremation rites will be accorded following services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Anti-cruelty Society of Chicago at anticruelty.org.
