Arthur Lewis "Lew" Reitemeier of Danville, IL passed away on June 4, 2015 at Danville Veterans Hospital. Born on February 4, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the only child of Arthur J. Reitemeier and Lavonne (Cole) Reitemeier. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN in 1950. Lew married Mary Ellen (Mimi) Binz on August 26, 1952 at St. Boniface Church in Lafayette, IN. He served in the US Army from 1952 - 1954 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he attended Purdue University where he earned degrees (B.S. - 1956, M.S. - 1957) in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduating from Purdue he worked for Standard Oil in Baton Rouge, LA for four and a half years. He was transferred to the corporate engineering center in Florham Park, NJ where he was the aromatic recovery expert for world-wide operations. In 1964 he began the next phase of his career with Teepak in Danville, IL where he held various leadership roles in quality and plant operations. Transferred to South Carolina in 1976 as the Director of Manufacturing (Plant Manager), he oversaw the construction of and operated a plant for the manufacturing of edible casings. Lew retired from Teepak in 1991. In 1994, Cutisin, part of the Teepak organization, requested his services as a consultant in Elaminsa, Czech Republic. Over his two and a half year stay he put together an engineering staff that developed technical, statistical and manufacturing procedures and quality improvement systems. Throughout his career he was awarded three patents for various chemical processes. While in South Carolina he was an advisor to the Food Science Department of Clemson University. He was a member of Calhoun County School Board Advisory Group, the Manufacturer's Council of State Chamber of Commerce, and the Governor's Advisory Board on Water Consumption and Quality. Lew was a member of the following boards: Danville Public Library, Lake View Hospital Foundation, DACC Foundation, Danville Symphony Orchestra Foundation, and the Danville Country Club Board. He did volunteer tax preparation for AARP and was the secretary of the Central Illinois American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Lew taught Physical Science and Chemistry at DACC. In 2001 he published "The Little Blue Book of Management". Lew enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, playing golf, woodworking, and playing bridge. He is survived by his loving wife Mimi and sons Rob (wife, Teri) and Fritz. He has three grandchildren: Dan, Rachel, and Michael. Visitation will be on Friday, June 12, from 4-7 p.m at Sunset Funeral Home (3940 N. Vermillion, Danville, IL). The Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be on Saturday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church (1303 N. Walnut Street, Danville, IL.) with Fr. Greg Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lew Reitemeier Scholarship for the Sciences at Danville Area Community College, the Danville Symphony Orchestra Foundation, or the St. Pauls Catholic Church Foundation.
