Arkie V. Martin

Arkie V. Martin was born November 4, 1942, in Danville, Illinois to Orville and Juel (Crigger) Martin. He passed away peacefully in Gardenview Manor on July 23, 2015. Arkie enjoyed woodworking, attending auctions, doing yardwork and especially enjoyed coffee and sweets. He worked as a dedicated employee at General Motors for 34 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Sasseen, with whom he was united in marriage April 24, 1970; by his children, Charlene Jones (Stig Follestad), Harry Cockrell, Teresa Cockrell (Doug Miles), Rose Cockrell (the late Dan Bellamy), James (Cindy) Bittner, Rex Bittner, John Martin, Misty Martin (Gary Priede), Timmy Martin, and Katrina Martin; his brother, Morris (the late Gladys) Martin; by many dear grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; and by a host of other dear relatives and friends. Arkie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Cockrell; and by his sister, Norma (Noble) Gremore. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, starting at 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Celebration of Arkies life service, with Pastor Randy Taylor officiating, at Sunset Oakwood Funeral Home, 105 E. South Main Street, Oakwood, Ill. Interment will follow at Newtown Cemetery.
