Arcelia Sailor Houghton peacefully made the transition from this life to her next life on Sunday, October 5th, 2008. Mrs. Houghton was born December 11, 1916 in Cissna Park, Illinois, the daughter of Ira and Lillian Sailor. She married Raymon Houghton April 12, 1943 in Eureka, Illinois, where they both attended Eureka College. Raymon preceded her in death in 1997. Survivors include one son, Ray Houghton of Los Angeles, Calif., a brother John Sailor of Minneapolis, Minn., and several Nieces and nephews. Arcelia graduated from Eureka College where she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in music education as well as performing in numerous plays and operas. After graduation she taught school for five years. She came to Georgetown in 1945 with Raymon where she became an active partner with him in the Houghton Funeral Home. She also enjoyed playing the piano or organ for the many families served by the funeral home over the years. The First Church of Christ has been her spiritual home since moving to Georgetown. She also served as President of the Georgetown High School Parent Teachers Association, was a life member and served as the state membership chairman for Delta Zeta Sorority, served on the Eureka College Womens Board, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star. More importantly, uncommon consideration and kindness for others were common virtues for Arcelia. Those people whose lives she touched can be confident that she is now reunited with those she loved and who loved her.
