Danville, Ill. - Anne P. Benckart, 92, of Danville and formerly of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away at 11:34 p.m. CST Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born November 7, 1921 in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of the late Carl E. and Alice Ray Pearson. Anne married Col. (Retired) Robert G. Benckart, Jr. on May 4, 1946 in Bloomington, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1993. Survivors include three daughters, Lt. Col. (Retired) Robin Benckart of Denver, Colorado; Suzie(Harry)Edgeworth of Bloomington, Indiana and Osprey, Florida; Caryn(Earle)Steiner of Danville, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Polly(Daniel)Wolfe of Denver, Colorado; Alycia(Noel)Kersey of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Betsie(Travis)Edgeworth Thickstun of Bloomington, Indiana; Courtney Edgeworth Abrell of West Linn, Oregon; Bryant Scales of Chicago, Illinois; Hatley(Ramsey)Cripe of College Station, Texas; Reed and Lucas Steiner both of Danville, Illinois; seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Pete(Mary Ann)Pearson of Dunnellon, Florida; Watson(Patty)Pearson of Bedford, Indiana and John(Kathy)Pearson of Spencer, Indiana. Anne was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana. Anne was a 1939 graduate of University High School in Bloomington, Indiana and a 1943 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She was a life member of the P.E.O. and D.A.R., and a member of the Wednesday Club. Anne volunteered at the Opportunity House in Bloomington, Indiana. She was a avid Indiana University Basketball fan. Anne enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. She especially enjoyed and was a very devoted military wife. Per Anne's request cremation was accorded. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
