Danville, Ill. - Anna Marie Cook Owens, 83, of Danville and formerly of Cayuga, Indiana, passed away at 2:58 a.m. CST Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Mrs. Anna Marie Cook Owens was born November 4, 1928, in Danville, to Everett Ray and Ruth Anna Cronkhite Cook, the granddaughter of Walter and Joanna Douglas Cook and Augustus and Lora Schrock Cronkhite. Anna married William A. Owens of Cayuga, Indiana on April 2, 1978 in Cayuga. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her are her parents, grandparents, sister, Miss Irene Cook, one granddaughter and three grandsons. Anna attended Danville public schools, graduating from Danville High School in 1945. She was employed by the city of Danville in 1960 when the Meter Maid program was initiated. She retired in 1986 from the Illinois Department of Public Aid, having held the position of Supervisor of ten counties as part of Project Chance. She was a past President of the McMillan School PTA, Girl Scouts of America Brownie troop leader, past member of Zonta, BPW, and Toastmistresses organizations, the Navy Mothers Association, and served as an election judge for many years following her retirement. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, euchre, crossword puzzles, and multiple trips to Florida beaches with her dear friend, Diane Davis, who also preceded her in death. Anna is survived by four daughters, Carol Howie Hardesty of Danville, Illinois; Patricia Howie(Eugene)Fort of Sedona, Arizona; Judith Howie(Thomas)Martin of Danville, Illinois and Cheryl Lovett(Raymond)DelValley of Cayuga, Indiana; three sons, Thomas James of Chester, Illinois; Richard DelValley of Danville, Illinois and Charles J.E. Lovett II of Danville, Illinois; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Two new great-great grandchildren are due later this year. Per her wishes, Anna will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 4 P.M. EST at the Cayuga Christian Church, 406 South Logan Street, Cayuga, Indiana with dinner following at the church. Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 4 P.M. EST Monday, February 27, 2012 at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor Anna send a contribution to the charity of the donor's choice. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family.
