Ann L Lindvahl

Danville - Ann Louise Lindvahl, 84 of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Taylorville, IL and Sun Lakes, AZ, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 4:14 PM at Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home in Danville, IL from Alzheimers. She was born on October 11, 1935 in DeKalb, Illinois the daughter of Ralph Leroy Nelson and Evelyn Wildenradt Nelson.

Ann is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ronald, son Mark (Marty) of Danville, daughter Kim (Barry) Rapp of Morton, IL, daughter In-law Beth Lindvahl of Effingham, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Sue Nelson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Frances, brother Charles Nelson, son Craig Lindvahl, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Rapp.

Ann grew up on a farm in DeKalb, Illinois. Her mother passed away her junior year of high school and she took over meals and responsibilities of a large cattle farm operation. She was active in 4H and had a runner-up Grand Champion steer at the Chicago International Cattle competition. Ann was a member of the high school debate team earning a sterling silverware set at a speech competition. Ann was an excellent piano accompanist, played baritone in the high school band and served as drum major for the marching band. Ann was a straight A student and valedictorian of her senior class.

After graduation from high school Ann attended Michigan State University for three semesters where she participated on the debate team.

She married Ronald Lindvahl on April 2, 1955 in DeKalb, Illinois. Ann later received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Millikin University in 1970 and her Masters Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Sangamon State University in Springfield, Illinois.

Ann taught piano lessons for several years while raising her children. After graduating from Millikin University, she began teaching 3rd grade at South School in Taylorville until her retirement in 1993. Her students loved her innovative ways of teaching, her passion for helping them to be their very best and her caring way with each and every student.

Ann loved working with gifted students, introducing an art appreciation program for elementary students in the Taylorville School District. After retirement, she continued to volunteer teaching art appreciation in the Chandler Schools in Arizona.

Ann was an active member of PEO, Illinois Retired Teacher Association, United Methodist Women at Sun Lakes, AZ where she also served on the pastor parish and social committees.

Ann was an excellent cook. She loved to bake and at Christmas would bake over 100 loaves of bread to give to friends and family. She loved to cross-stitch, craft, scrapbook, design and make her own greeting cards. Ann loved flowers, animals and the deserts of Arizona.

Ann enjoyed playing cards, board games, and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ann and Ron traveled the world and enjoyed trips with their family. Her favorite destination was Walt Disney World.

Ann was a lifelong learner. She loved reading, language, and conversation. She had a very strong faith in God and was committed to serving others.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the CNAS, Nurses, and Administrative staff at Hawthorne Village of Danville for their excellent care of Ann during her four years living there.

Per Anns wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
