Ann Elizabeth (Woodrow) Ellis, 85, of Covington, IN, a good and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 14, 2025, passing away in the Memory Care at Fountain Springs Assisted Living Facility in Covington, IN.
Ann was born in Danville, IL, on February 17, 1940 to Glen and Mary Woodrow. She graduated high school from Kingman High School in 1958 and then received her Bachelor’s (1962) and Master’s Degrees (1972) from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. She was in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
She had two brothers: Duane Woodrow-Kingman, IN; and Ronnie Woodrow (who preceded her in death as well as her parents); and 2 sisters: Glenda Boling of Covington IN and Sue Anderson of Attica, IN.
She married Bobby Ellis on September 14, 1962. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2024. Survivors are their three children and family: Eric (Leslie) Ellis of Terre Haute, Indiana, Mark (Cindy) Ellis of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Alisa (Marvin) Lamm of Danville, Illinois; along with 8 grandchildren: Jordan, Kaylee, Landon, Carter, Grant, Taylor, Carmen Ellis, and Kyle (Melanie) Lamm.
Ann became a teacher and taught at the Covington schools for 28 years; teaching kindergarten, first and second grades. She enjoyed quilting, hand stitching; gardening/canning/picking raspberries and strawberries and making jelly. She, along with her sisters and cousins Barb and Mary would travel to Shipshewana often to visit their cousin Jody and see the sights of the Amish country. Ann also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, keeping a clean house, reading books, and doing puzzles.
Ann was a strong Christian and instilled in her children this unwavering love for our Lord and Savior. She showed hospitality, integrity, and compassion to whomever she met. She would visit in the homes of those she knew from church, her neighbors, and those in the nursing home. She was a wonderful cook and would provide meals to the shut-ins and elderly people.
Ann and Bob loved to travel the United States. They traveled every year with their children. After Ann’s parents died, they purchased a motor home and travelled the west and east coasts. They would winter in North Fort Myers or McAllen Texas in the winter months.
Ann and Bob moved to Fountain Springs in 2022. Both had received wonderful care at this facility. Southern Care Hospice team employees were outstanding showing their compassion to Mom and the family during her horrible disease of dementia.
Ann was a very caring and gentle soul. She enjoyed being with family; especially with her grandchildren. She had been a faithful member of the First Church of Christ in Covington since 1966 where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years and involved in many other church activities.
She will be greatly missed by her family, her church family, friends, and close friends: Carolyn Davis and Carol Romine.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 12 pm est. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Covington Chapel 420 3rd Street Covington, Indiana.
