Anita Jane Chatt, of Oakwood, IL, died April 7, 2015 in Hoopeston, IL. Born, June 27, 1930 in Oakwood, IL, to Harold Allen Shroyer and Dorothy Grace (Trimmell) Shroyer. Married James ("Jim") Chatt on August 31, 1952 in Oakwood, IL. Jim preceded her in death on January 26, 2014. Also preceding her in death is one sister, Dorothy Mae Keene. Survived by her daughter Melinda (Mark) Garfield of Oakwood, IL, son Jim (Pat) Chatt of Mesquite, TX, brother Jon (Barb) Shroyer of Tucson, AZ, sister-in-law Lyle Chatt of Hillbsoro, IN, and brother-in-law Rod (Cecille) Chatt of North Hills, CA; grandchildren Timothy Pruitt of Covington, IN, Allen (Kath) Chatt of Washington, DC, and Helen Chatt of Greensboro, NC, Marissa Yocius of Danville,IL, and Michael (Rebecca) Garfield of Kiln, Missisippi; nieces Donna (Louis) Glascock of Sullivan, IN, Nita Kay Hughes of Liverpool, IL, Kathy Sue (John) McCance of Cuba, IL, nephews, Larry (Theresa) Harmless of Hillsboro, IN, Tom Johns of Elkhart, IN, Steve Keene of Jacksonville, IL, Robert (Barb) Keene of Astoria, IL, and Dick (Marsha) Keene of Macomb, IL, Allen (Maureen) Shroyer of Milpitas, CA, and Thomas (George) Chatt and Andrew Chatt of the Los Angeles, CA, area and numerous great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews. Anita graduated from Oakwood High School and received her RN degree from the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She began her nursing career at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, IN. Overseas travels took her to Japan, Hong Kong, and the island of Guam and posting at the Naval Hospital, Agana, Guam. Returning to the US, she worked in Danville, IL, at Lakeview Hospital. She continued her career specializing in geriatric nursing at Danville Care, culminating in her final role as a nursing administrator at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital. She was a 1972 graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors in Applied Science. Anita was a lifetime member of the Iris Chapter, # 307, of the Eastern Star and she was a life-long member of the Oakwood Christian Church, serving as a board member. On retirement, Anita traveled with her husband Jim around the US to Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington, and New England. While Anita retired from nursing in 1990, she continued her legacy of caring for others through her family and even into her friends and fellow residents at Heritage Health Hoopeston. The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff of Heritage Health Hoopeston. A celebration of life memorial service for Anita will be on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor David Birch officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service. Anita will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
