Andrew J. Palfi, 80, of Westville passed away at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Provena USMC Logan Campus in Danville. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Danville, IL the son of Bert B. and Mary Beres Palfi. He married Lois C. Hensley at the Congregational Christian Church in Westville on May 17, 1947. She survives. Survivors also include, three sons; Andrew (Bonnie) of Bartlett, IL, Alan (Gayle) of Sausalito, CA, and Curtis (Kathy) of Westville, four grandchildren, Adam and Kelly of Bartlett, IL, Leslie (Brad Lewsader) of Covington, IN, and Matthew Palfi, also of Covington, a great grandson, Bradley Lewsader of Covington; a sister, Martha Paine of Westville, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Guy of Lafayette, IN. and a sister-in-law, Juanita Cintella of Westville. He has a nephew, Earl Summers of Donora, PA. and three nieces, Christine (Kennard) Davis of Westville, Carol (Joe) Powell of Lafayette, IN, Doralie Jankowski of Lafayette, IN, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bert, three sisters, Margaret Halinka of Donora, PA, Helen Ford of Tilton, and Elizabeth Summers of Hegeler, four half-brothers, Joe, Steve, Paul, and Jim Cintella. Andrew was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Westville where he served as trustee. He attended McMillan Grade School and graduated from Westville High School in 1943, where he was active in sports, including football, basketball and track. He was selected to the Chicago Tribune All-State Football Team in 1942. H served in the US Marine Corps as Sergeant from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific and again in the Korean War from 1950-1951. He was employed at Illinois Power Co. at the Danville Plant and the Vermilion Power Station in Oakwood, IL, for forty-one years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Palfi was a member of the Danville Elks Club for 38 years and served as Exalted Ruler during their 100th year from 1995-1996. He was a long-time member of the Westville American Legion Post 51 and a past member of the Danville Marine Corps Leagues. He coached little league for his three sons and served as a trustee on the Village Board of Westville. His hobbies were golf, fishing with his sons and grandsons, dancing, and flower gardening. He loved and greatly enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. A celebration of Andrews life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 15, 2006 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville 414 S. State St. Burial will be at Sandusky Cemetery in Westville. Deborah Owen will be officiating services. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday August 14, 2006 at the funeral home.
