Andrew James Eggett

Andrew James Eggett, 79, of Westville, passed away at 10:43 pm on June 13, 2013, at home. He was born on March 12, 1934, in Georgetown, Illinois, the son of Beulah Hall and Andrew James Eggett. He married Dorothy Maskel on April 11, 1953. He married Judy Woodard on February 28, 1992. She survives. He is survived by three stepsons, Jeffrey (Angela) Woodard of Maidens, VA, John Woodard of Westville and Robert (Jennifer) Woodard of Tuscola; one sister-in-law, Joie (Fred) McDonald of Tuscola; one brother-in-law, Rod Chesnut of Dallas, TX and 9 grandchildren. Mr. Eggett was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, one sister, Barbara and one brother, Richard. He retired from the US Navy on May 1, 1977, as a Lieutenant after 25 years of service. He taught electronics from 1979 to 1982 at VOTEC. From 1983 until 1985, he was an instructor and guidance counselor for Lake Land College at the Vandalia Correctional Center. After earning a BS in Career Occupations with an Electronics Major, a MS in Guidance and Counseling and a Specialist Degree in Education with an Administrative Certificate, he worked as the Education Facility Administrator at the Danville Correctional Center. He retired from there in 1994. He worked at the Danville Eye Clinic before retiring two years later. Jim taught himself woodworking as a hobby during his retirement years and became very proficient at it. He was a caring man with a good heart who was willing to help all those he met. He will be missed by his family, the friends he made at work, in the churches he attended and the clubs he helped. A Celebration of the life of Jim Eggett will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Westville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Jim's name to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association may be made.
