Andrew John Mayoras, 95, The Villages, Florida, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (September 7, 2010) at Cornerstone The Villagers for Hospice, following back-to-back bouts with pneumonia. Andy was born December 3, 1914, in Westville, Illinois, The son of Andrew and Anna Kotun Mayoras. He married Katherine J. Shelato on August 1, 1936. Surviving are his five sons, Richard (Barbara Daly), The Villages, FL; Don (Joni Kacmar), Gallatin, TN; David (Sally Bash), The Villages, FL; Daniel, Denver, CO; Doug (Tina Sayre), Grants Pass, OR; his brother and sisters, Mary, Francis, Katherine, Danville, IL; Josephine, Schaumburg, IL; Mike (Shirley), New Orleans, LA; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Shelato Mayoras; mother, father, sister Theresa and daughter-in-law Sharon Vaughn Mayoras. Andy exemplified the American Dream. Born to Czechoslovakian immigrants, he graduated Westville High School, Illinois, and began deep coal mining with his father and uncle. In his mid-thirties he entered a life-long fascination with automobiles and mechanics. He retired at age 65 from his garage business Andy and Johns. Mr. Mayoras was a charter member of the Danville Golden K Kiwanis Club; Knights of Columbus 4th Degree; Amateur Radio Club (earning his operators license at age 95); and Schlarman High School Booster Club (spending many years as announcer and walking the sidelines of the football field). Andys interests included coffee and conversation with friends, gardening, golf, his ham radio, crossword puzzles, and all sports. He will be remembered as a strong, loyal, kind, loving man with a sharp mind and great sense of humor. The celebration of the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Andy will be Saturday, September 18, 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Danville, Illinois. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois, Friday, September 17, 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Villagers for Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, Florida 32162, Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 818 Wendt, Danville, Illinois 61832, or Danville Golden K Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, 41 Thornhill Dr., Danville, Illinois 61832.
