Andrew Joseph Alexis, 94, of Danville passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Andy was born on January 3, 1914 in Westville, Illinois, the son of Michael and Mary (Marsko) Alexis. He married Victoria Highkal Hicks on August 21, 1971 in Chester, Illinois. She survives. He is also survived by his son- Pete (Caren) Alexis of Dallas, Texas; step-daughter- Loretta (Roger) Thompson of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister- Margaret Roberts of Danville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers- Joe Alexis, Emery Alexis and Steve Alexis; one step-sister- Margaret Rokowski and his step-mother. Andy graduated from Westville High School. He worked as a troubleshooter at Hyster for 26 years, until he retired in 1976. He was currently a member of Holy Family Church and previously a member of St. Josephs in Covington. Andy was a past-member and past-president of Vermilion Hills Golf Association and also a member of the Elks. He was very active in sports his whole life, both playing and coaching. He enjoyed golfing, basketball and playing cards. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. After retiring he was always staying busy in his garage repairing things, doing woodworking or helping other people as a handyman. Andy was chosen as the Valentines Day King by the staff at Hawthorne Inn. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Holy Family Church, with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 " 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Entombment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park.
