Andrew E. 'Gene' Cosgrove

Andrew E. "Gene" Cosgrove, 90, of Danville, joined his beloved wife with the Lord on June 15, 2015. Gene was born on September 24, 1924 in Hoopeston, IL, the son of Henry F. and Hallie C. (Carter) Cosgrove. He married Mary (Altenstater) on November 8, 1952 in Danville, IL and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2014. He will be deeply missed by his children Jeffrey (Charlotte), John, and grandchildren: William (Amy) and Christine. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother George. Gene enlisted in the United States Army on April 7, 1943 and served during World War II until 1946. He was assigned to the European Theatre ending his tour with the Allied occupation of Berlin. Gene was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. He participated in baseball in his younger years and played league softball into his early 70's. Anyone who knew Gene remembers his love for the Cubs. While at WDAN/WDNL he organized many "Danville Days"" at Wrigley Field. Throughout his life, Gene was also involved in Boy Scouts as a Scout Master, a board member of Worksource, and many church-related activities. A celebration of Gene's life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville. Gene will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in his name to Ridgeview Baptist Church and Worksource of Danville.
