Danville Andrew Barbee, 42, of Danville, IL passed away at 10:15 pm on May 8, 2023 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Andrew was born on August 30, 1980 the son of Jonna (Barbee) Blough and Anthony Whitlaw in Danville, IL. Andy was raised, nurtured, and prayed for by his 'Dad' Larry Blough.
Andrew is survived by his children, Michael Barbee, Eliana Garza, Alyssa Garza and Mia Garza all of Danville, IL, his mother, Jonna Blough of Danville, IL, maternal grandmother, Joyce Holden of Danville, IL, his brother, Max Barbee of Danville, IL, two half-brothers, Michael and Christopher Whitlaw of Chicago, IL, brother from another mother, Corbin Galey of Houston TX, and adopted second mom Jean Norton, of Danville.
Andrew is preceded in death by his biological father and grandfather, his dad Larry Blough, an uncle, David Moran, brother-in-law Bobby Hernandez, father-in-law Ramon Hernandez, and second mom Polly Galey.
Andrew worked at Autozone, and other warehouses in the area. He laughed at thinking his calling in life was being a lift truck operator. He was very artistic and could draw anything, and loved his screaming hard rock band Pantera, Metallica and idolized Jim Morrison and music of the Doors, and had a deep appreciation of Mozart. He was a self-taught and gifted drummer, starting at the age of nine. You could always hear drums coming from the blue house in Catlin, where he grew up and graduated high school. He was a great little baseball player (pitcher), played football all through elementary and high school. If he got the ball, it was a touchdown, he was lightning quick. He loved science fiction, was fascinated by the inner workings of black holes, space-time and anything astronomy related. Andy was four classes short of a bachelors degree in IT and Web Design. He loved his son and daughters dearly.
Andy was intelligent, insightful and loving. He would tell everyone his mom was his best friend. He fought his addiction genes all his adult life.
Cremation rights will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
Andy's mother's wish is for all who love an addict, please never give up hope. Remind your loved one that a way out of the nightmare is possible. Their recovery is up to them, know when the help they ask for is not the help they need, and be able to say no and stick to it.
Memorials may be given to the family in honor of Andrew.
