Amelia Alvina Van Pelt, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 16th, 2020. Born May 18th, 1927 to John and Ruth Hoagland of Covington, IN. The oldest of eight children and she graduated from Covington High School in 1945.
Alvina is preceded by her parents, her husband Charles VanPelt, her son Jack VanPelt, daughter Marilyn Cunningham, brothers Richard Hoagland and Nathaniel Hoagland, and sister Naomi Hoagland.
She is survived by her son Michael (Trudy) VanPelt, son-in-law Gregory (Sue)Cunningham, grandchildren Adam (Brooke) Cunningham, Joshua Cunningham, Jaclyn (Jake) Musselman, brother George (Lee) Hoagland and Harry Hoagland, sister Kathryn Hines and Helen Bellis. Her extended "family and kids" including the Heidrick and Brummett children she watched over the years.
Alvina grew up in Fountain County, Indiana. She worked at St. Elizabeth hospital and was a switchboard telephone operator for many years. She later moved to Bismarck, Illinois following the death of her husband and worked as a member of the Bismarck Board of Trustees for nine years. Due to her many years of serving the community with exemplary dedication to Bismarck, May 20th, 2007, was declared Amelia Alvina VanPelt Day.
She will be remembered for her daily McDonalds run to have coffee and breakfast with the gang, always being on the road to visit family and friends. With the love and encouragement of children, grandchildren, and others to whom she is known as Grandma, Ralph, Pesky, and Grandma-with-the-frog.
She attended Bismarck United Methodist Church and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Pastor Chris Quick. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
