Alyce was born on May 3, 1931 and raised in Timewell, IL by her loving parents John and Blanche (Shankland) Bradney. She married Harold Shields. He preceded her in death in 1962. She married Richard Edmonson in 1967. He preceded her in death in 1983. She married David Riegle in 1991.
Alyce is survived by her husband, David Riegle of Southlake, TX, daughters, Dona Shields Foster of Springfield, IL, Beverly Shields (Kate Russell) of Long Beach, CA, and Leslie Shields Jones of Long Beach, CA, grandchildren, Brad Jones (Laura Luke) of Naperville, IL and Beth Foster of Springfield, IL, stepchildren, Dale Riegle (Debbie) of Danville, IL, Linda Riegle Keck (Wayne) of N. Richland Hills, TX, Ginny Edmonson of Quincy, IL, and Richard Edmonson (Judy) of Rockport, IL, step grandchildren, Libby Keck Howell (Jesse) of N. Richland Hills, TX, Rachel Keck Howell (John) of N. Richland Hills, TX, Buddy Riegle of Danville, IL, Logan Edmonson (Beth) of Rockport, IL, Olivia Ohmundson of Danville, IL, and Grace Ohmundson of Danville, IL, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild, nieces, Dr. Susan Coe (Doug) of Crystal Lake, IL, Mary Beth Morphew of Crystal Lake, IL, and Sharon Woodworth of Flint, MI, as well as several great nieces & nephews.
Alyce was preceded in death by her brother, Don Bradney and nephew, Jimmy Shields.
Alyce attended Brown County High School in Mount Sterling, IL. After high school she attended Chicago Modeling School in Chicago, IL and worked as a switchboard operator. Alyce and Harold, moved to Springfield, IL, where she worked as a bank teller at Marine Bank. After the death of Harold, she moved 'her girls' to Quincy, IL where she worked as a bank teller at Broadway National Bank.
While in Quincy, IL, Alyce was active in the church choir often singing solos, duets, trios and quartets with her girls and other choir members. She taught Sunday School, played the piano and gave private voice lessons.
After moving back to Springfield, she worked as a bank teller and word processor for Land of Lincoln and First National Banks. She attended West Side Christian Church where she was also active in the choir and various church activities.
While in Danville, Alyce and David were very active in their church. Alyce would help to prepare meals for funeral dinners for church members, she faithfully typed Dave's Sunday School lessons for him each week for the class he taught at their church. They often held Cottage Prayer group at their home where she would always prepare delicious snacks for their guests.
Alyce sent birthday and get-well cards to Sunday School members. She was known to make calls to those who were shut-in just to give them words of encouragement and to pray for them. She would even send cards and letters to those she had never met, who were going through challenges.
Her greatest joy was her family and her beloved David. She loved preparing meals for family gatherings and holidays. Over their 31 years together, she and David made many trips camping with their travel trailer, traveling to the Smokey Mountains, Alabama, Arizona & California to visit family and friends. One of her favorite places to camp was at Lincoln's New Salem in Petersburg, IL.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 17, 2022 from 9-11 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 with the funeral service to follow from 11-00-Noon. Pastor Dave Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
