Alvin "Slim" Hinrichs

Alvin E. “Slim” Hinrichs, a beloved resident of Mahomet, IL, passed away on the Friday, May 26, 2023 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL.  He was 82 years old, born on May 15, 1941 in Urbana to Albert and Sjamke (Uden) Hinrichs. Alvin was a cherished member of his family and community
He leaves behind his dear sister, Louis (Hinrichs) Crawford, and his two nephews, Elmer and James Crawford.  Also surviving is his life partner of 20 years, Judith Smith of Mahomet, and her children Pam Hinkle of Bondville, IL; Julie Smith of Mahomet and James Smith of Florida, and several grandchildren.  Alvin' memory will forever be cherished by his family, who will remember him for his unwavering love, support, and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents.
In his earlier years, Alvin discovered his passion for mechanics and became a skilled diesel mechanic.  He dedicated his career to servicing others, working for Regal Motors and then retiring March 2023 from the City of Champaign where he maintained all the firetrucks and city vehicles.  His expertise and commitment were evident in the quality of his work, earning him respect and admiration from his colleagues and customers.  He also loved farming and antique tractors.
Alvin never lost his sense of humor nor his friendly nature.  He approached life with a positive outlook and brought joy to those arounds him.  His warm smile and genuine kindness endeared him to many.
His strong faith played an important role in his life, and he was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osman, IL. He found solace and strength in his spiritual community, and his devotion was an inspiration to others.
In celebrating Alvin’s life, let us remember him as a resilient individual who faced adversity with grace and maintained a cheerful spirit.  His legacy of kindness, faith and perseverance will continue to inspire us all.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osman.  Rev. Jeffery McPike will officiate.  Burial will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, Fisher, IL.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 on Monday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove, Rantoul.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
May Alvin Hinrichs rest in eternal peace, knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
