Danville Alvin C. Scheeter, 81, of Danville passed away at 1:40 AM on June 1, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Alvin was born on April 20, 1938 the son of Otto and Mamie (Westrich) Scheeter in New Hamburg, MO. He married Claudine Messmer on June 20, 1964 in Kelso, MO and she survives.
Al is survived by his wife, Claudine Scheeter of Danville, IL, one sister, Arabella Stike, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as Alvin and Claudines "adopted" son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Holley Lerner.
Al was one of thirteen children. One sister died in infancy before his birth and he is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and five sisters. His oldest sister, Arabella Stike will be 102 years old on June 21, 2019.
Al was an avid sports fan, anything with a ball he loved. He loved his St Louis Cardinals Win or Lose. Al was honored to play 2nd Base for the new Hamburg Shindler Tavern Fast Pitch Softball Team, Winning the 1967 State Championship.
Al graduated St. Lawrence Catholic School in New Hamburg, MO, then Kelly High School in Benton, MO and from Washington University, St Louis, MO with a Business Administration Degree. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 at Fort Carson, CO.
Al was employed by Bunge Milling as Vice President of Transportation for 35 years to the day he retired. He started with Bunge Milling and retired with Bunge Milling.
Al was a member of St Pauls Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a Red Vest Volunteer for 16 years, logging 9,000 hours.
Al and Claudine lovingly planted and cared for all the flowers & trimmed all the shrubs at St Pauls Catholic Church for 12 years.
Als favorite hobby was giving his time and sharing his talents with others and gardening, especially his lawn which he manicured. He was proud of his "designer cut". Al also loved reading, especially financial magazines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 6, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St Pauls Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street Danville, IL with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday June 5, 2019 from 4:00 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL with a 3:30 Rosary Service prior to Visitation. Al will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210.
Memorials may be given to St Pauls Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street Danville, IL, Schlarman Academy 2112 N. Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61832 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital / ALSAC, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN in lieu of flowers.
