Alvin L. Peelman, 99, of Georgetown passed away on August 2, 2024 at Accolade Healthcare in Danville. He was born the first of 14 children to the late Alvin Dewey and Eva Lucille [Lowe] Peelman in Danville on April 1, 1925. He attended Danville and Catlin schools growing up. However, in the midst of his junior year of high school in 1943 he left to enlist in the United States Navy, where he honorably served aboard the USS Hornet before his discharge in 1946. The previous August in 1945, he married the love of his life, Grace Adams in Oxnard, California and shared a wonderful 68 years together before her passing in March of 2013.
Alvin retired from Hyster after 40 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed many camping trips with his family and friends. He was an avid skier and loved teaching others the skill as well. He also enjoyed woodworking and liked to take his finished products to craft sales at various different events throughout the year. He spent many hours around the table playing euchre and poker. He was known for his giving nature and was always ready to help anyone who needed an extra hand.
Alvin is survived by his daughters Cathy (Wayne) Warfel and Liz; grandchildren Todd, Kelly, Nichole, Caleb, Susan, and Sheri; 6 great-grandchildren Miranda, Kaci, Justice, Jaycee, Phoenix, Wyatt; and 3 great-greatgrandchildren Knox, Rhett, and Lainey. He also leaves behind his sisters Melvina and Dianne, and his brother Danny.
In addition to his parents and wife Grace, he is preceded in death by his daughter Susan, grandson Ted, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Accolade Healthcare for the wonderful care of Alvin in the months leading up to his passing.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 2:00 pm- 3:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes Houghton- Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:30 pm, also at the funeral home where military rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made in his name to the Georgetown American Legion or the First Church of Christs foodbank. He will be placed to rest with Grace at Sunset Memorial Parks Mausoleum Chapel in Danville. Online condolences and fond memories can be shared with his family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
