Alva J. Fortune, 87, of Georgetown, passed away at 2:20pm, Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman. He was born on August 12, 1926, in Ridge Farm the son of Frank and Cora {White} Fortune. He was united in marriage to Beverly Johnson on February 18, 1945, in Danville, until her passing on February 25, 1999. Alva worked for 35 years at Hyster. He was a member of the Vermilion Grove Friends Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a volunteer with Hospice for visiting & assisting patients. He loved Bible Study groups and singing in his church choir. Alva owned Fortune Fotos Studio for many years. He loved traveling for vacations and most of all, being with his family. He will be dearly missed by: his daughters, Betty (James) Zoerb of Heyworth, IL, & Alice (Terry) Rhoads of Chrisman; his grandchildren, Lance Rhoads of Paris, Gina Rhoads of Noblesville, IN, & Steve (Maggie) Zoerb of Fitchburg, WI; his four great grandchildren; his one great-great grandchild; his two nieces; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by: his parents and two brothers, Russell Fortune & Spencer Fortune. A visitation will be held 1pm to 2pm, Monday, February 24, 2014 with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. There will be a private burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Vermilion Grove Friends Church.
