Alonzo "Don" Parker, 89, of Danville passed away on December 14, 2019 at the VA Honor House in Danville.
He was born on August 21, 1930 in Georgetown, IL the son of Alonzo and Ella (Cox) Parker. He married Janice Davis on October 15, 1966 in Camargo, IL. She survives.
Don will be deeply missed by his wife, Janice, 2 sons, Curtis Parker of Phoenix, AZ and Darrell Parker of San Diego, CA, daughter, Denise Parker of San Diego, CA, three granddaughters, one grandson and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Don served in the Korean War and was wounded in action and awarded a Purple Heart. He was a photographer in Danville at the VA and retired in 1994 as the Chief of Medical Media.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and tried to live a life pleasing to aim. He loved his family and had many friends, giving himself for their needs. Don loved to travel, enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Illini and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He loved playing softball for the AFGE team at the VA during his employment there.
A celebration of Dons life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville 3940 North Vermilion St. Danville IL, 61834 with Pastor Joe Humrichous officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Danville National Cemetery. Memorials can be made in his name to the American Parkinsons Association.
