Alma May Hawes, 91, of Danville, went to be with the Lord at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at her home. She was born February 6, 1913 in Chapin Township, Michigan, the daughter of Elmer and Lena (Burch) Chant. She married Olice Vern Hawes on April 29, 1932 in Bay City, Michigan. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1966. She is survived by: 3 Daughters- Dorothy (Bill) Yow of Danville, Shirley (Jerry) Norton of Danville and Barbara (Carol) Taylor of Alvin; 15 Grandchildren; 34 Great-Grandchildren; 14 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a Special Girl in her life- Candice Watson Steele of Decatur, IL. Her parents, husband, a stillborn Son, 1 Granddaughter, 1 Grandson, 2 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Brothers, 1 Sister, and 2 Sons-in-law preceded her in death. Alma retired from General Electric in Danville in 1966. She made a home for Veterans from 1966 until her death. She received Scouter of the Year in 1970, and was the first female to ever receive the Silver Fawn award from the Boy Scouts in 1971. She volunteered at the Thrift Shop, and was a Board member of the Danville Humane Society for many years. She was a member of Northland Christian Church in Danville.
