Alma E. Gillum Ingalsbe Johnson

Peru, IN Alma E. Gillum Ingalsbe Johnson, 101, of Peru, IN, formerly of the Danville area, passed away at 1:15 AM on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at her home. She was born on January 24, 1922 in Sterling, CO to Henry N. and Thelma S. (Ard) Gillum. Alma first married Victor A. Ingalsbe and later Gilbert E. Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her six children, Gordon H. (Mary) Ingalsbe of Crawfordsville, IN, James A. (Emma) Ingalsbe of Moore, OK, Philip G. (Pauline) Ingalsbe of Peru, IN, Vicki Ingalsbe of Peru, IN, Donna S. (Merlen) Rasmussen of Peru, IN, and Bonalu (Larry) Young of Peru, IN; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 45 great-great grandchildren, their 35 spouses, and 4 that had preceded her in death.

After the death of her first husband Victor A. Ingalsbe in 1967, she met another Godly man, Gilbert E. Johnson. They married in 1970. He had four children, Edward (Norman) Johnson, Lewis (June) Johnson, Rose (Burgess) Stone, and Delores (Frank) Redman; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 39 great-great grandchildren, and 28 great-great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Melissa Babb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, J.P. Gillum, and a sister, Janet Bandy.

Alma was a farmers wife and took great pride in raising and caring for her family. She also worked part time for American Greetings until she was in her early 80s. In her younger days, Alma was heavily involved with various 4H programs. She played piano and sang soprano in her church and also taught her children to sing along the way. Family was always important to Alma and she loved to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Oakdale Baptist Church in Peru, IN and took her faith seriously. She was a prayer warrior who was always willing to share that faith with anyone that needed it.

A service to celebrate the life of Alma E. Johnson will be held at 1 PM Central Time on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Reverend John Murdoch will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12-1 PM on Monday prior to the service, also at Sunset in Danville. An additional Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM Eastern Time on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Oakdale Baptist Church in Peru.
