Alma Dodd

Alma L. Dodd, 81, of Tilton, died at 3:38 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2006 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Alma was born on June 22, 1925 in Indianola, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Alta (Lewis) Danner. Alma was raised in her early years by her Aunt Eula Toots Schmink. She married Donald P. Dodd on January 25, 1946 in Georgetown, Illinois. He survives. She is survived by her two daughters- Donna (Bob Meeks) Dodd of Tilton and Linda (David) Landers of LaMirada, California; two grandchildren- Joshua and Elizabeth Landers of LaMirada, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson-Matthew Landers and one aunt- Toots Schmink. Alma graduated from Sidell High School in 1944. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She worked for 29 years with the Superintendent of Public Instruction under R.H. Elliott, Jim Ellis, and Richard Weller, until she retired in 1984. Alma and Donald both worked at the Strawberry Patch at Vermilion Manor for 19 years. She was an avid reader. A Celebration of the Life of Alma L. Dodd will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Scott McCurdy officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or to the Strawberry Patch at Vermilion Manor.
