Allen Pratt Smith, 83, of Danville, passed away at 10:20 p.m. December 5, 2005 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Allen was born on August 29, 1922 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Aaron B. and Emma Jean (Pratt) Smith. He married Frances E. Findley on August 30, 1948 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She survives. He is survived by five sons- Tim Smith of Danville, Jonathon (Hiroko) Smith of Celina, Ohio, Christopher (Linda) Smith of Perrysville, Indiana, Jeffrey Smith of Danville, and Matthew Smith of Danville; one daughter- Martha Smith of Danville; three sisters- Virginia Donnelly of Shepherdsville, Indiana, Beverly Parson of Arlington, Texas, and Marjorie Brown of Terre Haute, Indiana; five grandchildren- Brittany, Chase, Aurora, Amanda, and Courtney; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Allen was a graduate of Rose Poly in Terre Haute, Indiana with a bachelors degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the United States Army as a civil engineer from 1942-1946 serving during World War II. Allen worked for the Central and Eastern Illinois Railroad for 15 years. After leaving the railroad he worked at the Illinois Department of Transportation for 27 years until retiring in 1988. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #210 and a member of Danville Engineers Club. He was also a member of the Highway Association. He enjoyed doing woodworking. He also enjoyed reading and working in his yard. As per Allens wishes there will be no services. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Allens name to the American Heart Association. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
