Danville - Alice Shanks, 77, of Danville, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday February 13, 2014. She was born October 4, 1936 in Danville, IL the daughter of William and Mabel (Watson) Cassel. She married Larry Shanks on August 29, 1998 in Danville, IL., he preceded her in death on July 27, 2013. She is survived by her daughters Carrie Freeland and Alice (Chuck) Lomax; her step children with Larry, Pam (Steve) Guess, Laura (Bryan) Shanks-Corn, and Michelle Gillum; and their families. Her step children with Tom, Todd (Kim) Jameson, and Mary (Stan) Remole and their families. Her grandchildren, Tad (Tiffany) Freeland, Erin (Ryan) Wells, and Corey Lomax; her great-grandchildren, Logan Freeland, Thomas and Taylor Wells. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband from her previous marriage Tom Jameson, and one grandchild. Alice was a very spiritual person; she loved and served God her entire life. She was a church choir director for 25 years. She enjoyed reading Christian novels. Alice truly loved being with all of her family, she was passionate about family gatherings, especially holidays. She enjoyed going with family on shopping trips and on vacations. She was a long time member of Lincoln United Methodist Church, and recently a member of Second Church of Christ. Alices friends were very special to her and the memories shared with them will always be cherished. She worked for Sears Service for many years. A celebration of Alices life will be held at 10:00am Tuesday February 18, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. A visitation will be held Monday February 17, 2014 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. The family of Alice asks that memorials be made to Alzheimers Association in her name.
