Alice Jean Mccallister

Alice Jean McCallister, 74, of Kingman, Indiana passed away at 11:08a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Provena United Samaritan Medical Center, Danville. She was born January 21, 1934 in Rossville, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel (Matthews) Mullen. Jean married William E. McCallister February 14, 1975 in Rantoul, IL. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2006. Family members left to cherish her memory are six surviving children, Debi (Doug) Custer, Lesa Tessensohn, Rick (Janice) Pringle, Belinda (Alan) Copas, Leah (Thom) Moss, and Patrick (Heather) McCallister. 11 grandchildren include, David and Jake Custer, Mandy Comancho (Tony), Jeanna Tessensohn, Jessica Hatcher (Joey), Zachary, Olivia and Hannah Moss, Jeremiah Redden (Amee), Josh Copas, Jennifer Lyons (Andy Jones), and Matthew Copas. Seven great-grandchildren include, Eyan and Noah Hatcher, Abigail and Dawson Camancho, Gage and Gatlin Copas, and Kayden Lyons. Also surviving are one brother, James Mullen, two sisters, Janice (Wayne) Wise and Sharon (Greg) Potter, two sister-in laws, Sandy Mullen, Betty McCallister and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, William M. McCallister, two granddaughters, Sharon McCallister and Gabriella Comancho, and one brother Jerry W. Mullin. Jean retired from the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, as secretary to Chief of Psychiatry, with over 20 Years of service. She was a member of the Kingman United Methodist Church. She attended the Watseka United Methodist Church Wednesday night bible study. Jean was a former Cub Scout Den Mother. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, and cooking. She was also an avid Cub fan. All who knew Jean loved her. She devoted her life to her family, friends, and community. The world is a better place today because Jean lived. A celebration of life for Alice Jean McCallister will be at 10:00a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville, IL with Pastor Ken Majors officiating. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jeans name to American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
