Alice Houpt

Alice Houpt, 88, of Danville, passed away at 5:47 PM on Monday, December 14, 2015. Alice was born on January 12, 1927 near Montgomery, Indiana the daughter of Thurman and Arlie Summers. She married Gene Houpt on June 9, 1946 in Washington IN. Surviving are Children: Steve (Linda) Houpt, Dan (Margaret) Houpt, and Mike (Lou Ann) Houpt; Grandchildren: Mark and Tim Houpt, Sarah Morrison, Autumn Dodson, Mitzi Cambell, Spring Magrum, and Holly Duffman; and 16 Great-Grandchildren. Alice's life was devoted to her husband, supporting him faithfully in his labors as a Christian minister. Gene and Alice served the Old Union Church of Christ in Danville for over 25 years and was a member of the Cross Roads Christian Church. Throughout his ministry Gene also served as a forwarding agent for the South India Church of Christ Mission, and Alice worked closely alongside Gene in this endeavor as well. As a result of their involvement in missions, this country girl from southern Indiana became a world traveler making several visits to the mission field in south India, as well as other countries around the world the world. In addition to her support of her husband's ministry, Alice was involved in community activities, participated in Home Bureau, and serving as a Red Cross Gray Lady. She was an avid reader, delighting especially in literature of England and the British Isles. A service for Alice will be held at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Miles Clark officiating on Friday, December 18, 2015. A visitation will be held an hour prior at 9am.
